The trip was organized by Women on Wheels’ member Chritine Stone. The weather forecast was predicting a beautiful weekend in the VT countryside. I left my house on Friday night and it was raining the entire time. I was hoping the weather would improve. I spent the night in my car parked near the Danville Park & Ride, where the weekend adventure was supposed to start. When I woke up, the light rain was keeping the world around me wet. It felt disappointing. I travelled back to St. Johnsbury to eat breakfast at the Dunkin Donuts there as I couldn’t find anything open in Danbury that interested me. I arrived at the Park & Ride a little bit before 8am and everyone was getting ready. The ride was scheduled for 9:30am. I greeted the others and everyone expressed the same feelings about the rain. There was no rush and we started riding after the scheduled time. We had about 22 miles to our first stop. It was a family diner. We sat inside and the food was delicious. We talked and laughed. It was nice to sip hot tea with my roasted beef sandwich. The ride took us through gravel, paved roads and portions of the Cross VT Trail. The rain eventually stopped. After our food stop, we traveled another thirteen miles to a general store to get some snacks and beer. The campground we stayed in was about two miles from the store. We set up our tents, started the fire while sipping beer and laughing. Then we sat by the table and ate our snacks. We even went for a short walk. We retired for the night early. The night wasn’t cold but it got colder in the morning. I think the temperature dipped into lower forties. Luckily, it wasn’t raining. We stopped for a breakfast and continued traveling through the beautiful countryside till the end.
